Barrett is scheduled to appear before 6th District Court Judge Eric Clifford in the Lamar County Courthouse on February 21 for jury selection with testimony beginning on February 25.

The body of Donna Barrett was discovered after she had failed to show up for work. After finding Barrett’s house locked up and her vehicle gone, a family member discovered her vehicle later at an apartment complex. The family member then later broke into Barrett’s home, where her body was discovered.

During the investigation, police arrested her husband, Byron Barrett, 42, on a bond surrender warrant, for family violence charges for an incident that took place in December 2011. The warrant included charges of assault on a family member, impeding breathing/circulation, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

No weapon was found at the scene, but official autopsy reports show she had been stabbed repeatedly by a sharp object.

Barrett has remained in jail since his April arrest.
