Drunk driver arrested after hitting utility pole

Paris Police were dispatched to a crash, reported as a one-car roll over, in the 300 block of Lamar Avenue at around 9am on Wednesday morning, according to Paris Police Chief, Bob Hundley.

As officers arrived on the scene, they observed the driver of the vehicle walking around, evidently uninjured.

The vehicle was westbound on Lamar when it went off the side of the road and struck a utility pole, which broke it in half.  The collision also flipped the truck upside down.

The driver stated that he thought he fell asleep, but upon police interview they detected some signs of intoxication.  Officers performed a roadside sobriety test and made the decision to arrest the driver for Driving While Intoxicated.

Steven Joseph Woods, 50, of Paris, was taken for a blood draw and booked in the Lamar County Jail.
