Officers assaulted after making arrest

Paris Police officers suffered minor injuries while arresting a resisting subject on Monday, according to Paris Police Department Public Information Officer, Curtis Garrett.

At around 9am on Monday morning, a Paris Police officer, conducting a traffic stop in the 600 block of Bonham Street, observed 18-year-old Aaron Javon McGee of Paris enter a nearby convenient store.  With previous knowledge of a Criminal Trespass warning given to McGee from the business, the officer checked with dispatch to confirm.

Due to the traffic stop leading to an arrest, the officer called for the asisstance of a second officer.  The asissting officer entered the store and placed McGee under arrest, according to Officer Garrett.

He was then placed into the patrol car.  While inside McGee managed to slip his handcuffed hands from his back to his front.  When the officers attempted to correct the action, he began resisting.

It was reported that McGee kicked both officers and struck one in the face with his hands, according to Police.  After being assaulted, officers sprayed Mcgee with OC Spray to gain his compliance.

They were then able to again place him under arrest – hands behind his back – with no further issues.  Both officers reported minor injuries.

Paris Police responded to 136 calls to service on August 6, 2012.
