Police investigate stolen newspaper stand, Woman arrested after assaulting her boyfriend with a screwdriver

On Sunday, July 15, at 10:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of SE 12th Street on a report of a stolen newspaper stand that was found in a shed, according to Paris Police Department Information Officer, Curtis Garrett.

The newspaper stand had been taken from an unknown location, money from within it removed, and then placed in the shed at a residence that had also been broken into, according to the complainant.

The house where the shed was located, which is currenty under renovation, had been entered by unknow subjects in an attempt to rob it.  Police determined that tools were stolen from the house.  These incidents are under investigation.

On July 13, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Bonham Street to speak with a subject about a report of some stained glass that could have been stolen from a church on Kaufman Street, according to Officer Garrett.

The subject directed law enforcement to the 1200 block of Lamar Avenue where the stained glass was located.  Officers confirmed that the stained glass had been taken from the Primer Iglesia Bautista El Calvario Church building in the 300 block of W Kaufman St.

Officers then discovered more of the alleged stolen stained glass at another store on the Plaza.  The incident is under investigation.  Officers were unable to locate the owner of the church building for confirmation of the theft at the time.

Thirty four year old, Courtney McClelland of Paris, was placed in jail after she assaulted her boyfriend with a screwdriver, according to Public information officer, Curtis Garrett.

On Sunday, July 15, officers responded to a disturbance call in the 400 block of Grand Avenue.  When officers arrived at the scene they made contact with a male victim.  He advised officers that he and his live-in girlfriend had been in an argument when she cut him with the screwdriver.

Officers located McClelland as she attempted to flee the scene by climbing out of a window.  She was captured and arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and placed in jail.

Over the weekend, 20 people were arrested in the City of Paris on the following charges: 4 for Municipal Court warrants, 6 for Public Intoxication, 3 for theft, 1 for Criminal Trespassing, 1 for Aggravated Assault, 1 for Resisting Arrest, 1 for Possession of Marijuana, 2 on Outside Agency warrants, 1 for Motion to Revoke Probation, and 2 for Emergency Detention.

On July 13, 2012 officers responded to 110 calls for service, on July 14, 104 calls for service, and on July 15, 100 calls.
