Update: Murder victim identified as the father of man arrested, charged with his murder
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man that they discovered lying dead in a shop building west of Paris on Sunday as 54-year-old David Wayne Powell, the father of the man arrested and charged with his murder, according to Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass.
The body was sent for an autopsy on Sunday and preliminary results confirm the cause of death to be extensive blunt force trauma and the manner of death a homicide, the sheriff said.
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office received the call reporting a deceased person in the 6500 block of Highway 82 West on March 16. Upon arrival sheriff’s deputies found a deceased 54-year-old male subject lying on the floor of a shop building with severe head trauma.
Detectives interviewed a male subject that also resided at the residence and subsequently gained a warrant of arrest from the Lamar County DA’s Office for 33-year-old David Scott Powell — son of the victim.
Powell has been charged with the murder and awaits arraignment in the Lamar County Jail.
