Deputies discover deceased man inside partially submerged vehicle in Pine Creek

A little before 6 p.m. on Monday, March 17, a call reporting a possible deceased person in a vehicle partially submerged in water in Pine Creek was received by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, according to Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass.

sheriffThe caller reported seeing the vehicle where Pine Creek crosses County Road 45600 in northeast Lamar County, near the Pinhook Community.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they confirmed that a vehicle was partially submerged in an area approximately 150 feet north of the low water crossing on CR 45600 in Little Pine Creek. Deputies also confirmed that a deceased man was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was 55 years old.

Also responding to the scene were Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol troopers, Paris Fire and Rescue members, Faught and Novice Volunteer Fire Departments, Texas Rangers and game wardens, all of which assisted in the recovery of the vehicle and the deceased man.

An autopsy was ordered, and the investigation is ongoing pending the autopsy results, authorities said.

The decedent was pronounced and identified by Justice of the Peace Ken Ruthart. The identification of the man is being withheld until his family can be notified.

“The Department of Public Safety is working this as a fatality accident,” Sheriff Cass said.
