Sheriff's Office arrests man charged with murder after discovery of deceased man yesterday
A 33-year-old man was arrested yesterday and charged with murder after being interviewed by sheriff detectives about his involvement in a homicide, according to Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass.
On Sunday, March 16, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a deceased person in the 6500 block of Highway 82 West. Upon arrival sheriff deputies found a deceased 54-year-old male subject lying on the floor of a shop building with severe head trauma.
Sheriff detectives, along with Texas Ranger Stacy McNeal, are working the scene as a homicide, the sheriff said.
The man was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Crystal Duke and the body was sent for autopsy.
“Investigators are awaiting autopsy findings to determine the cause of death,” Sheriff Cass said.
Detectives interviewed a male subject that also resided at the residence and subsequently gained a warrant of arrest from the Lamar County DA’s Office for a David Scott Powell, 33, charging him with murder.
Powell has been placed in the Lamar County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
The investigation is continuing, the sheriff said.
