Young girl makes right decision when stranger asks her to come to his vehicle over the weekend
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office asks the public to be on the look out for a male suspect that stopped in front of a residence on FM 1497 near the loop and asked a young girl to come to his vehicle on Saturday shortly before 5 p.m. Because the little girl did not know the male subject, she ran inside and told her mother.
“I praise the young lady for doing what she was supposed to do,” Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass said. “We go to schools and teach children about ‘stranger danger’, and when the subject hollered at the girl to ‘come here’, she did the right thing by going inside to tell her mother.”
The subject, who was possibly Hispanic with a small patch of facial hair under his bottom lip, was seen driving a tan or gold 4-door sedan and wearing a white t-shirt at the time of the incident.
The man did not pull into the driveway, but stopped on the side of the road in front of the residence when he confronted the young girl. When she went inside, the subject left the scene, heading northbound on FM 1497 towards Loop 286, the sheriff said.
Anyone with information on this vehicle or subject matching the description should contact Lamar County Sheriff’s Office at 903-737-2400 or Paris PD at 903-784-6688.
“I’d like to talk to the individual and find out what is going on,” Sheriff Cass said.
