Police: 22-year-old Paris woman shoplifted at Walmart and fought employees who tried to stop her
A 22-year-old Paris woman was arrested about 4 p.m. Monday in the block behind Walmart and charged with robbery in connection with an incident inside the store.
Store officials said Courtney Jill Hampton was observed taking items and leaving the store without paying for them, police department spokesman Curtis Garrett said.
When store employees attempted to detain her, she assaulted one employee and fled on foot, company officials said.
Garrett said Hampton was taken into custody in the 3700 block of Pine Mill Road. Officers located marijuana inside her purse along with the stolen merchandise, and she was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
Garrett said police officers responded on Monday to 97 calls, resulting in the arrests of seven individuals.
