Man taken into custody in weekend assault of woman alongside Paris' northwest loop
A Paris man is in custody on aggravated assault charges following a weekend attack of a 26-year-old woman.
Police Chief Bob Hundley said officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of the city’s northwest loop regarding a report of a man assaulting a woman on the side of the road. Two witnesses told officers they saw the man striking the woman in the head with some type of blue bag.
When Paris EMS arrived on the scene, they were told the woman had been in and out of consciousness and had lost feeling in one leg. A medical helicopter transported the victim from the scene to a hospital in Tyler.
Albert Padilla, 45, of Paris was arrested on aggravated assault charges and other non-related warrants.
Officers responded to 277 calls for service from Friday through Sunday, resulting in 16 arrests.
