At about 10:48 A.M. on February 12, 2014, Paris Police responded to the 1900 block of E. Cherry St. in reference to a call to 9-1-1 where the caller stated that a Hispanic male had been shot in the head. Several officers responded and searched the area but were unable to locate a victim.
During the investigation, officers made contact with 21 year old Santana Burris of Paris. Burris admitted to calling 9-1-1 and stated that he had made the incident up. Burris was placed under arrest and charged with an abusive call to 9-1-1 along with possession of marijuana when officers located marijuana in Burris’ wallet. Burris was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
In another call, Paris Police responded to the 3700 block of FM 195 at about 7:16 P.M. where it was reported that someone had stolen two rifles from a residence. The investigation showed that someone had entered the residence through a window and had taken the rifles from a gunrack in a bedroom. Officers were advised that Officer Massey of the Reno Police Department had made an arrest earlier in the day where a convicted felon was found to be in possession of two rifles and the two rifles had been seized. The rifles were found to be the same rifles that had been taken in the burglary. The investigation continues.
On February 12, 2014, Paris Police responded to 107 calls for service while arresting 6 persons.
