When Paris police officers went to the 300 block of Stone Avenue on Tuesday concerning a complaint that two people were smoking marijuana, they found two men in an apartment “that smelled of marijuana,” department spokesman Curtis Garrett said.
One of the men “handed the officers the marijuana and advised where more was located inside the apartment,” Garrett said.
Jordon Love and James Meija, both 20, were arrested for possession of marijuana and were later transferred to the Lamar County Jail, Garrett said.
Because of the proximity of several campuses of the North Lamar Independent School District, the charges were enhanced to possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone.
Garrett said police responded to 112 calls for service on Tuesday, resulting in eight arrests — five for Class C misdemeanors, two for warrants and one for an emergency detention.
