Police department spokesman Curtis Garrett said House reportedly swung the hatchet, breaking a window out of his ex-wife’s vehicle as they were in the process of driving away from their residence.
The original incident occurred on July 27, and House was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail. Bond was set at $15,000 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
During the investigation of the allegations against Crussell, it was found that he had a previous conviction for assaulting a family member and the charge against him was enhanced to a second-degree felony, Garrett said.
Jail records indicate that Crussell was arrested last November on a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
