Over the weekend: police arrest six for forging checks, two for a pound of marijuana

An Ennis man who tried to pass a forged check at a Paris bank was arrested over the weekend, along with five companions waiting in a vehicle outside.
Officials of First Federal Community Bank, 3010 NE Loop 286, told police the man presented a check on Friday that was written on a closed account. When asked about the check, he said it was a work check but could not give any details as to where he worked, police were told.
After suspect Robert Edward Sheridan described the vehicle that he was brought to the bank in, police officers located the vehicle and arrested five other people.
Arrested were:
- Christopher Wade Anderson, 26, of Dallas;
- Jeremiah Bivens, 25, of Dallas;
- Timothy Wayne Council, 46, of Dallas;
- Cortez Denez Foster, 53, of Dallas;
- Robert Edward Sheridan, 24, of Ennis, Texas; and
- Hudson Taylor Weatherly 23,of Cartwright, Okla.
Foster was charged with forgery of a financial instrument, and all six were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity. Bond was set at $50,000 for Foster and Council and at $20,000 for the four others.
Friday, Paris narcotics officers arrested a man and woman in the 500 block of SE 17th Street after finding them in possession of a pound of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia items.
- Blaine Garrett Hall, 32, of 145 SE 24th St., and
- Abbie Michelle Whitaker, 25. of 590 SE 17th St.
were charged with possession of more than 4 ounces but less than 5 pounds of marijuana in a drug-free zone. Bond was set at $10,000 for Hall and $5,000 for Whitaker.
Those seven individuals were among 34 people arrested over the weekend. Police responded to 309 calls for service in that period.
Officer Curtis Garrett, public information officer for the Paris Police Department, said two people were placed in custody for emergency detention, one person was charged with failing to identify as a fugitive, one person was charged with driving while intoxicated, and a juvenile was charged with assault.
