On December 28, 2012 around 2:00pm Lamar County Sheriff Deputies responded to an accidental shooting in the Northeast part of Lamar County.
Two (2) male juveniles’ ages nine (9) and thirteen (13) were hunting in a pasture area near both juveniles residences. The nine year old juvenile tripped and fell causing a single shot 22 caliber rifle that he was carrying to discharge striking the 13 year old in the chest area. Paris EMS transported the 13 year old victim to Paris Regional Hospital where the victim was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Gene Hobbs. Both juveniles were close friends and the Sheriff’s Office is investigating this along with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens at this time.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to both families through this terrible tragedy,” stated Sheriff-elect Scott Cass.
