Main Street Report to the Lamar County Chamber Commerce Board of Directors

At a meeting held on January 28th, 2014 the Paris Main Street reported several updates to the downtown area to the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce Board members.

Extra_Logo_Slider_SizeIncluded in that report was the upcoming purchase of benches and trash receptacles for the downtown sidewalks where improvements were made last year. Several partners have made a donation to make this happen. Many thanks to Jeff Martin at Subway, Jason Callicoat at Paris Apothecary, Paris Garden Study Club, Atmos Energy, and Paris Regional Medical Center and Nicholas Huber ( youth who donated $325 toward Trash receptacle). There were 6 benches and 4 trash receptacles needed for these projects. One bench and 2.5 cans are still needed to complete this project.

Paris Main Street also reported that they are working on the following projects:

  • Revamping the historic downtown map and shopping guide.
  • Finalizing the lineup for the Summer 2014 Movies in the Park
  • Organizing “April in Paris Wine Fest”   this event is set for Saturday, April 12 and tickets will be sold online only at a cost of $35.  Six wineries are lined up and participants will enjoy entertainment, Texas Top wines, local area food , and a great evening of shopping in downtown. All ticket holders will an annual wine glass and wine tote with Swag inside. The proceeds will go to Paris Main Street BIG grant program.
  • Awarding BIG GRANT reimbursement: Scott McDowell for $3500 for his work on 2 W. Plaza. He was also a recipient of the $2500 HPC Façade Grant
  • Continuing work on the Grand Theatre façade. Color samples of the porcelain banding have been approved, the flooring in the front is replaced, and the work on the sign is about to begin.
  • Welcoming two new businesses downtown:  Olive Paris on South Main, Reinvented Junk on Bonham.

Finally, it was reported that the City of Paris received is the recipient of a Texas Capital Fund Main Street Sidewalk replacement Grant. This is a very competitive grant, and only 4 cities are selected. Paris ranked 4th. The grant is for sidewalk replacement only. The project will include sidewalk on S. Main Street, Lamar Ave. and 1st ST NW, next to PCT.
